Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks

I recently picked up two shades of the new Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks in Catwalk and Fashionista. Advertised as long-wearing and moisturizing with shea butter and aloe.

The shade catwalk is almost bronze in colour with a hint of red. Fashionista is a deeper coral-red. The lipsticks themselves are a bit sheer, but well pigmented. The finish is “suede”, almost matte with very little shine. Moisture-wise, they are less drying than most long-lasting lipsticks but still dry out my lips within 30 minutes. They must be reapplied on a regular basis to avoid the ring around your mouth as they wear off from the inside out, leaving coloured flakes behind.

I picked these up at Shoppers Drug Mart for $12.99 CA. Available in 20 shades.

Covergirl Lipperfection Jumbo Gloss Balm

I picked up a stick of the new Covergirl Lipperfection Jumbo Gloss Balm (what a mouthful of a name) in colour 250 Scarlet Twist. This lip crayon is moisturizing with a soft natural shine, with a sheer and buildable colour.

The shade Scarlet Twist is pretty and soft on my lips. While the colour is a little cooler-toned than I normally buy, the sheerness of the finish allows my warmer tones to come through. I’m also a fan of the newer crayon styles of lippies. They’re easy to toss into a purse or pocket and the application of crayons are foolproof even without a mirror.

Currently retailing for $12.99 CA at Shoppers Drug Mart. Available in 16 shades.

Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration

BzzAgent did me a favour again, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Just when the weather was turning to a brisk -17C not including windchill I was sent an invite to get in on their Burts Bees Intense Hydration campaign. For the first time ever, I had dry and flaky eyelids (my under eyes weren’t any prettier). As an added bonus for Christmas, the sides of my mouth were cracked and oozing. I can be like a little child, when it hurts and it’s within range I lick compulsively.

The Bzz kit for this campaign contained a full size night moisturizer and cream cleanser, along with sample packets to pass out to friends and coworkers. I’ve been using the moisturizer during the day and at bedtime on my skin and eyes (shh…don’t tell anyone!!); within a week my skin was well and back to normal. It was a pleasant surprise, usually creams for dry skin break me out. A major win for this cream, no irritation, burning, or breakouts. I’m becoming a fangirl for Burts Bees.

The Bzz kit did not include eye cream, but the next time I purchase it will probably be from the Intense Hydration line. I really loved these products.

(Please see this post here for an explanation about what BzzAgent is and how it works)

Seven Facts About Myself

1. Growing up in small town northwestern Canada left me with a serious love for all animals (our house is a menagerie of cat, dog, rabbit, fish; we are always talking about getting another species).

2. If I’m not reading something on the internet, I usually have my nose buried in my Kobo reader (science and 18th-19th century literature).

4. I have an obsession with red nail polish and lipsticks, when I see one I usually feel compelled to buy it.

5. Period dramas dominate my I-Tunes videos: Bomb Girls, Downton Abbey, Carnivale, Deadwood, anything Jane Austen, Mad Men, Upstairs Downstairs, Boardwalk Empire, etc, etc.

6. Patience is not a virtue I possess.

7. It’s a bad day if I’m seen without a cup of coffee or a can of Coke in my hand.

Coveting Guerlain

s1479914-main-heroThe Guerlain Liu Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette is at the top of my holiday wish list. This is a brand I have yet to try and the palette is so pretty. The shades are colours I would actually wear everyday, a neutral eye and red lip are my go-to combination. Perhaps I’ll get it with any gift cards I get for Christmas. I always get at least one prepaid Visa from the parental units. $82 CA on

Shimmer Sheet Set

SEPHORA COLLECTION Shimmer Sheet Set: Shop Luminizer | Sephora.

Here’s a pretty and handy idea from Sephora, oil blotting sheets with blush and highlighters within. I use oil-blotting sheets at least once a day, and I find the idea intriguing. The rating is a little low at only 3/5 stars, so I’ll be watching to see if it goes up. I don’t usually buy something unless a product is at least 4 stars to avoid crappy products. This sheet set is selling for $19 CA on Sephora.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo: Shop Dry Shampoo | Sephora.

As an oily haired gal, I have come to appreciate dry shampoo. To baby my fine hair and help prevent damage I prefer to shampoo and condition my hair every two or three days. Because my hair begins to grease up after about 12 hours, I need to  either shower or use a dry shampoo to unplaster my hair from my scalp (I’ll take pictures one day when I feel a little braver). If I don’t, I look as though I haven’t showered in days because of my stringy and greasy hair.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo works like a charm. It resembles cornstarch when squeezed out of the bottle and leaves a fresh lemon verbana scent in my hair. After I rub it in and brush it out my hair has amazing volume without leaving a white residue in my medium brown hair. The squeeze bottle does not clog like the spray dry shampoos that I have tried. This is frustrating when the bottle costs $10-$20 CA and I have found that no matter how much hot water I soak the nozzle in, it remains blocked.

I couldn’t recommend this dry shampoo more. I just order my second bottle from Sephora for $11 US for 1 oz or $21 US for 2.5 oz.

P.S. My IPhone has dried after its dunking in the toilet and is now operational. My poor phone survived and I breathed a sigh of relief this morning. The toilet water drained the battery but it perked right up after charging.
