August Covets

It’s almost fall, a season I love for both makeup and fashion. My brown hair and eyes fall into the Autumn colours spectrum, rich reds and browns suit me best.

CLINIQUE Chubby Stick Moisturizing Cheek Colour Balm in Amp’d Up Apple

Chubby Stick Moisturizing Cheek Colour Balm – CLINIQUE | Sephora//

Described as “A creamy, mistake-proof cheek color that creates a healthy-looking glow in an instant.” on Sephora.com, it’s retailing for $24 Canadian. An oil-free cream brush in a stick form? I’m totally there. I love their Chubby Stick lippies.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks

I recently picked up two shades of the new Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks in Catwalk and Fashionista. Advertised as long-wearing and moisturizing with shea butter and aloe.

Catwalk on right, Fashionista on left.

Catwalk on right, Fashionista on left.

The shade catwalk is almost bronze in colour with a hint of red. Fashionista is a deeper coral-red. The lipsticks themselves are a bit sheer, but well pigmented. The finish is “suede”, almost matte with very little shine. Moisture-wise, they are less drying than most long-lasting lipsticks but still dry out my lips within 30 minutes. They must be reapplied on a regular basis to avoid the ring around your mouth as they wear off from the inside out, leaving coloured flakes behind.

I picked these up at Shoppers Drug Mart for $12.99 CA. Available in 20 shades.

Covergirl Lipperfection Jumbo Gloss Balm

One swipe on left, three on right.

I picked up a stick of the new Covergirl Lipperfection Jumbo Gloss Balm (what a mouthful of a name) in colour 250 Scarlet Twist. This lip crayon is moisturizing with a soft natural shine, with a sheer and buildable colour.

The shade Scarlet Twist is pretty and soft on my lips. While the colour is a little cooler-toned than I normally buy, the sheerness of the finish allows my warmer tones to come through. I’m also a fan of the newer crayon styles of lippies. They’re easy to toss into a purse or pocket and the application of crayons are foolproof even without a mirror.

Currently retailing for $12.99 CA at Shoppers Drug Mart. Available in 16 shades.

Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration

BzzAgent did me a favour again, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Just when the weather was turning to a brisk -17C not including windchill I was sent an invite to get in on their Burts Bees Intense Hydration campaign. For the first time ever, I had dry and flaky eyelids (my under eyes weren’t any prettier). As an added bonus for Christmas, the sides of my mouth were cracked and oozing. I can be like a little child, when it hurts and it’s within range I lick compulsively.

The Bzz kit for this campaign contained a full size night moisturizer and cream cleanser, along with sample packets to pass out to friends and coworkers. I’ve been using the moisturizer during the day and at bedtime on my skin and eyes (shh…don’t tell anyone!!); within a week my skin was well and back to normal. It was a pleasant surprise, usually creams for dry skin break me out. A major win for this cream, no irritation, burning, or breakouts. I’m becoming a fangirl for Burts Bees.

The Bzz kit did not include eye cream, but the next time I purchase it will probably be from the Intense Hydration line. I really loved these products.

(Please see this post here for an explanation about what BzzAgent is and how it works)

Beautiful Blogger Award

Many thanks to the ArtsyArchitette for nominating me for the Beautiful Blogger Award!

The Beauty Blogger Award has the following rules:

1. Link back the person who nominated you.
2. Post the award on your page.
3. Tell seven facts about yourself.
4. Nominate seven bloggers and let them know they have been nominated.

Seven Facts About Myself

1. Growing up in small town northwestern Canada left me with a serious love for all animals (our house is a menagerie of cat, dog, rabbit, fish; we are always talking about getting another species).

2. If I’m not reading something on the internet, I usually have my nose buried in my Kobo reader (science and 18th-19th century literature).

3. I am fascinated by different accents and ethnicities, probably because my family has been Canadian for centuries and are known as either the French or English sides.

4. I have an obsession with red nail polish and lipsticks, when I see one I usually feel compelled to buy it.

5. Period dramas dominate my I-Tunes videos: Bomb Girls, Downton Abbey, Carnivale, Deadwood, anything Jane Austen, Mad Men, Upstairs Downstairs, Boardwalk Empire, etc, etc.

6. Patience is not a virtue I possess.

7. It’s a bad day if I’m seen without a cup of coffee or a can of Coke in my hand.

Coveting Guerlain

s1479914-main-heroThe Guerlain Liu Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette is at the top of my holiday wish list. This is a brand I have yet to try and the palette is so pretty. The shades are colours I would actually wear everyday, a neutral eye and red lip are my go-to combination. Perhaps I’ll get it with any gift cards I get for Christmas. I always get at least one prepaid Visa from the parental units. $82 CA on Sephora.ca.

Influenster Anyone?

I recently signed on to an online community called Influenster, a “place for culture junkies to come together and share their unique opinions of products and experiences”. The more active members receive promos and deals from brands and then share their thoughts on the products online. Participating in certain activities gains you speciality badges and ups your numerical score. For example, I have badges for beauty, food, fashion, pop culture, and sweets. Each category has its own separate score relative to my participation in each heading. Fun and addictive.

Occasionally, boxes of samples called VoxBoxes are sent to qualifying members. I haven’t received one yet, but I’ll keep plugging away.

PSST… I have a few invites. Anyone loud and opinionated is welcome, just leave a message.

Lorena

Ah ShoeMint. They make shoes I truly cannot resist. Meet Lorena, one of this month’s selections. Including shipping, my bill came to just shy of $100 CA ($79.98 in the US with free US shipping). Also available in Blush with black trim, Lorena is made from suede and has a 5″ heel with 1″ platform (ruh roh). There is a zipper up the back and lace-up front. I see this well-styled with some of my vintage flavoured dresses.

Another Bear Misbehaving

Bear pulls corpse from car near Kamloops –  News – MSN CA.

A bear pulled a corpse from a car near Kamloops, BC. He had a snack and then buried it, as black bears do. A hunter discovered the body and contacted the RCMP. In the meantime, the bear moved the body and buried it at a new location just to keep everyone awake. The RCMP found drugs and alcohol within the vehicle, and they believe the man was dead before the bear hauled him out of the car. Apparently it’s going to be one of those years wildlife-wise.
